CHRIS’S EXPERIENCE

Let’s hear from Chris, one of our instructors, on his experience during the Self Reliant Course.

“This was definitely one of the favorite courses I’ve ever taken. As a dive instructor, one of my biggest goals is always to increase my training and become a better diver. Besides the Divemaster Course and IDC, this was one of the best learning experiences I’ve had. I truly felt that I was able to dive independently after the course.

I was able to work with my Course Director Shayne during the course. As always, she is very knowledgable and explained the theory very clearly. I had a lot of very specific questions, especially about the equipment set up. Shayne was able to answer them easily. Afterward, the pool session following the theory was very helpful as well. Initially, I was very unfamiliar with the equipment. I was able to really work on my buoyancy to the level where I’d be comfortable in the ocean. Shayne even helped me out with the back-finning technique. Super useful! I’d catch myself using it a lot afterward-especially when looking at macro creatures.

Off to Go Diving!

For the ocean dives we headed up to the North of Penida. The currents here can be strong, so it was the perfect place to do my training. Demonstrating skills in these conditions were tough, but I felt like I emerged a much better diver. I found the application of our dive plan to be especially interesting. Furthermore, I’d never gone in such detail regarding my air consumption. I definitely felt much safer afterward! Read More
