Shayne’s Experience
“This is one of my favorite courses to teach! First of all, it allows me to further PADI’s ethos of inclusivity. It’s always a special feeling to introduce someone to scuba. It’s even more special when it’s to someone who never thought they could dive!
I remember the first time I applied Adaptive Techniques I was in Thailand. There was a veteran from England who had always wanted to explore the underwater world. Unfortunately, he had lost the motor function of his legs. Luckily, using the Adaptive Techniques course, I could make that possible for him. Firstly, I worked with him in the pool. I showed him proper finning techniques with his hands. Additionally, I also showed him some special ways to adjust his buoyancy. Proper gear set up was essential. Once we got to the ocean, a safe entry technique was also very important. Overall, it was a life-changing experience for him. He is now an avid diver that goes on several trips a year!”
